The studio that brought us The Chosen is releasing their new film, His Only Son, just in time for Easter. I was lucky enough to preview it for you all & I have nothing but good things to say.

His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

While there were a few artistic liberties within the film, I didn’t think it took away from the main Bible story or the parallels they connect to Christ.
I think it’s a movie that you can enjoy, regardless of how well you know the story and regardless whether you’ve accepted Christ into your life. It gently tackles such difficult topics and most importantly, points every viewer to Jesus. It’s a fantastic movie to see with your Bible study group, with your family, or even that one friend whose been on your heart lately.

My favorite part of this movie overall is the hidden message of Christ as the telling of Abraham’s story. If you’re not aware, the entirety of Abraham and Isaac’s story in the Old Testament points to Jesus’ sacrifice in the New Testament. I think that anyone that watches would be highly interested in further study to find the parallels (if you are, CLICK HERE – I’ve linked Blue Letter Bible that offers multiple commentaries and sermons and I recommend this website wholeheartedly).
Overall, His Only Son invokes a lot of emotion (like all Angel Studio productions) and I recommend that you take your family and friends to see this film to be inspired by Isaac and Sarah’s relationship, coming to theaters tomorrow (March 31st).
