Publishing/Literary Consulting

Publishing your first book can be daunting. Where do you start? Should you self-publish? How do you find a real publisher? Do you need an agent? How do you get in contact with an illustrator? An editor?

Taking the steps to be a published author is extremely overwhelming. From too much advice to sort through to not being able to find any information on your specific search topic, wouldn’t it be nice if someone could guide you into the right direction?

Well, that’s what I’m here for. I’ve self-published my own book in 2015 and currently working on my second. Starting in 2016, I’ve been helping people like you make their literary dreams come true. By using me as your publishing consultant, I can help you:

  • Decide if you want to traditionally publish or self-publish
  • Create a publishing schedule for you, to keep you on track and focused
  • Provide you tools to create query letters and/or book proposals.
  • Guide you to find an editor, agent, and publisher
  • Review your manuscript samples
  • Connect you with budget-friendly illustrators or photographers to create your book cover
  • Develop a personal marketing plan that suites your needs
  • Provide advice on how to create an online presence as an author
  • Give you tips & tricks to stay relevant as an author
  • & so much more!

I know that you probably have a budget (or no budget at all), which is why following this literary dream can seem scary. You don’t want to waste your money on one of those publishing companies that charge thousands of dollars and I know you don’t want to waste your money on an expensive publishing consultant that gives you information you can find online for free, that’s why I’d love to spend some time with you to chat about your goals and what I can do for you!

Manuscript Evaluation

After we chat about what your manuscript is about, you’ll send me the first chapter and I will identify any weaknesses – clarifications needed, inconsistencies, etc. After identifying some issues, I’ll share a few ideas that may help address these issues as you continue to write or edit your manuscript.

Published Book Review

Already have a published book? Send a print or digital copy my way and I will write a formal review that will be shared on my website, Goodreads, Amazon, and Instagram.

PDF Publishing Guide (Temporarily Discontinued)

I’m so excited about this guide! Almost everything I know about getting that manuscript published is in there. I break down the differences between the types of publishing, what companies you can go through for publishing, how to find a literary agent, tips on making a book cover, a resource page to connect with illustrator, editors, etc.

Manuscript Critique

Instead of reviewing one chapter of your book, I’ll read the entire thing. I’ll be more detailed – writing questions and comments I have as I go through it. I’ll bring up things that don’t work, focus on your overall theme, and depending on what kind of manuscript it is, address any issues with character development, plot, dialogue, etc.

One-on-One Consulting

In 2014, I found out that I could publish my own work without having to go through the traditional long process of finding a publisher. I’m pretty sure I screamed out loud in excitement. I spent a few months writing my book, a few weeks doing some of my own research on self-publishing, spent some time on Canva to create my cover, and absolutely ruined my launch month because I didn’t plan a single thing. I just went ahead and published my book.

Oh, I couldn’t count my mistakes on my fingers and toes. If I had found a reasonably priced publishing consultant that could tell me, “Hey, dial it down and let’s make a better plan for your publishing goals”, I would have saved a lot of heartache.

I got into consulting because it basically fell into my lap and I’m not one to waste an opportunity to help others. I know where you are now. I know how nerve wrecking and exciting it can be to know you can publish your own work at the click of a button. I know you’re stuck with a million questions because when doing your own research, there is just too much of it and you’re stuck overwhelmed – which means you’re procrastinating on actually writing…right?

This is where I come in – let’s have a chat & see if we are a good fit to work together. If we both agree you can actually benefit from my services, we’ll make some goals. You’ll make goals on your end (like hitting that word count or drafting a proposal) and I’ll make some goals for myself (like helping you figure out if you want to self publish or go traditional, or guide you in writing a query letter).

Consulting is really led by you – what you need from me to make your literary dreams come true. I can’t wait to talk and see a photo of you holding your print copy in your hands!

If any of this seems interesting to you and you’d like to learn more about prices and chat with me about your goals, go ahead and follow the link below.
